Chicano Conservatism
Not to romanticize the word revolutionary but I was reading a quote in the signature of someone who posts @ soychicano.com In his signature he put this:
“The conservative chicano is truly a revolutionary”
The conservative Chicano is not a revolutionary, by definition a conservative wants to keep and maintain the status quo, and to resist change.
At the other side of the equation, by definition, a revolutionary wants radical change

I know who you are referring to, and if I was to guess, I think that he is using the quote in reference to who truly is unique and escapes the norm with reference to Chicanos and the politics chosen. Finding a conservative Chicano is rare and revolutionary when you take the historical politics of chicanoism in context.
With that said, as a conservative myself, I still think that it is conservativism as a political philosophy that is the 21st centuries truest revolutionaries; take social security, free trade, tax reform and most importantly, educational vouchers. On all of the above it is conservatives that are proposing new and improved solutions and it is the liberals that are fighting for the status quo. In other words, in economic issues, it is liberals that are the reactionaries and conservatives the revolutionaries.
This is especially important when you consider that educational vouchers and charter schools, as I have explained in great detail on my blog, primarily help poor minorities the most, yet liberals continue to stand in the way of progress and prefer to instead defend the status quo.
So on issues that matter to Chicanos the most, it is conservatives that offer the best solutions going into the 21st century. Liberals, on the other hand, want to keep us stuck in yesterdays failed solutions.
Give me a break Hispanic Pundit. There is nothing revolutionary about the conservative philosophies you espouse. Tax reform? Educational vouchers? Social Security? These are the same things you people have been spouting off about for years. Even we “Chicanos” know that this is just a thinly veiled attempt to dismantle the social safety nets that have protected the people of this country since the Great Depression. Letting people gamble their social security money away on the stock market? Not smart. Dismantling the educational system so that the wealthy and powerful can continue to send their kids to exclusive private schools that no voucher could possibly cover? Not cool. Free trade (aka trade unburdoned by regulations that protect human rights, the environment and common decency)? Don’t think so.
No, none of these are revolutionary ideas. Revolution means giving more power to the people, not less. So very typical to blame the “liberals” for yesterday’s “failed solutions.” Go campaign your canned Republican talking points elsewhere.
A chicano is someone of mexican descent who lives in the United States but keeps Mexican culture and blends it with, I cant say American culture because they really dont have much of their own as far as beautiful art, astounding monuments or a calendar that dates back nearly 6000 years like the cuauhxicalli, so the american lifestyle and holidays . I think a good example would be making tamales on thanksgiving along with turkey. A xicano on the other hand referred to people near the northern Mexican border who only spoke nahuatl. And a revolutionary is someone who has the pair to speak up against political leaders when they are improper, abusive or selfish leaders.
My response here was not to argue one way or the other with regard to conservative ideas, I was merely responding to the claim that conservatives wanted to protect the status quo and liberals wanted to change that. Right or wrong, that is clearly not the case. It is conservatives, specifically on economic issues, that are the ones pursuing change and it is liberals that are fighting for the status quo.
As for the merits of each of the propositions, it is clear that it is you that is ‘campaigning canned Democrat talking points’, not I. Just to give one example, vouchers have a clear record of helping poor students, especially minority students. This is no longer theory my friend, this is actually implemented policies that have a clear record of working. For example, economist Caroline Hoxby of Harvard University (who also happens to be a minority – Black) writes:
So it is clear that on vouchers, and I would argue many of the other issues mentioned above, conservatives are both, the ones fighting for change and against the status quo, and change that specifically benefits the minority and poor.
Rarely have I seen a dialog with meaningful ideas being exposed. I myself am a new generation of Chicano. Out of the 300 million people living in the U.S. Latino’s comprise of 75 million, with in that 75 million the largest minority is from Mexicano origin. I myself am from the so-called Generation Y yet; I am from the micro trend of the Manexo, which is the New Chicano/a generation. We are huge and many of us are of voting statute I believe Mark Penn a political strategist calls us Latino militants. We are a new generation, which believes that the conservation of Nuestra Familia de la Raza is in higher need. We are also much more religious and fixed on understanding the past to safe guard our future. Much of the community I come from is achieving the MEChA philosophy of education. I myself have a PhD from the University of Chicago in Political Science and most likely will be voting for Hillary Clinton. Historically her husband is the only president to appoint many true Chicano/a’s into cabinet office. As an organic intellectual I come from the bottom and know the best of both worlds and I perceive in a different way. If Bill Richards is to be elected by his party I will vote for him but the guy is a genius on international issues so I would rather have him be secretary of defense. As for Barack Obama I guarantee that he will become a new Supreme Court justice when Hillary becomes president. The future looks good for now. Thank you, Manexo
